CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERISTY PEP BAND
Who we are
No, we don't march. We use a drum set and have no marching percussion, but we like auxilliary percussion. The marching band music we perform is designed to "carry" at sporting events and generally make Goodman Arena a more enjoyable place for our CSU Community. The emphasis is on fun. The music is relatively simple, but good musicianship, punctuality and reliability are expected. Chances are, if you're used to hearing a tune at one tempo, ours is about twenty points faster (except for that Gary Glitter tune--we like his tempo). Membership is open to all CSU students and is determined by audition. We rehearse for a few evenings in October and then start our performing season, which concludes in March. The band starts playing thirty minutes before the game and then plays during some time-outs and during halftime. We also may play an occasional performance in the off-season. Auditions Auditions take place by appointment with the director. Please arrange your audition via email. All candidates will be expected to play one chromatic and three major scales and then sight-read some relatively simple marching band style music. Music reading is a required skill. Some candidates might feel more comfortable playing a prepared piece if they don't feel confident about sight-reading. This is acceptable, but not required. While we encourage virtuoso players to join our group, we really need people who are just solid players who enjoy performing at sporting events.
The CSU Pep Band needs people proficient in the following instruments: If you're interested in joining us for the 2004-05 season, please please e-mail Dave Hager, CSU Pep Band Director stickwaver@ameritech.net with the following information:
